Comeback of beavers, cranes and sea eagles
In Germany, beavers, cranes and sea eagles are seen more frequently again. A current study by Nabu (German Nature Conservation Association) shows, that even other mammal and bird species are celebrating a comeback, such as the black stork, eagle owl and peregrine falcon. The establishment of protected areas, the legal protection of certain animal and bird species, protected breeding and resting places and EU reintroduction programs, especially in Germany, are responsible for ensuring that the population of these species are growing again. After all, each and every species is important for maintaining the ecological balance.
Urgent need to protect meadow birds and insects
However, NABU sees a need for more action when it comes to meadow birds and insects. NABU President Tschimpke emphasizes that species-rich grassland needs to be protected even more, as it is one of the natural biotopes for meadow birds and insects. In addition, a realignment of intensive agriculture and forestry is urgently needed as well.
