Holistic Food Supply: Great Projects – Food for All

Here you will find great projects, with local and global solutions, for a Holistic Food Supply with high-quality food, sustainable production, fair trade and distribution, against hunger and malnutrition.

Holistic Food Supply Against Starvation and Malnutrition

Nowadays nobody needs to starve on earth, because there is enough food for everyone. In industrial countries, food is even thrown away on a large scale, while people around the corner are starving. In NEW EARTH there is a system of Holistic Food Supply, which aims to give all people in the world unlimited access to healthy and high-quality food, produced sustainable and with fair trade.

Selfsufficiency with own production of healthy food is top priority in Holistic Food Supply, because people need to have control over the production, sale and distribution of their food themselves. There are various great projects that have already implemented the idea of Holistic Food Supply on a regional level. These include school feeding projects in India or projects in Germany, in which good food from restaurants and canteens is sold for a little money, before it ends up in the trash.

Holistic Food Supply with Algae

The simplest solution to combat hunger and malnutrition worldwide, is to cultivate eatable ALGAE, such as Spirulina and Chlorella on a large scale, dry them and send them to regions in the world, where there is real poverty and hunger. The supply of algae has several advantages. Firstly, algae contain everything a person needs to live. The algae are rich in minerals, trace elements and proteins and can even replace meat and fish.

Field studies in Africa have shown, that children with moderate malnutrition can fully recover with 2 to 6 grams of Spirulina daily, for four to six weeks. Another advantage of algae is, that it can be easily grown in sunny coastal areas. Water consumption is significantly lower than in growing soy. In addition, the dried algae only require little space and are very light, which is very advantageous while transporting them over long distances. Growing and harvesting algae is very easy to learn, also drying, storing and selling, and can be undertaken by small local cooperatives.

In the Benedictine Monastery of Notre Dame de Koubri, near the capital town  of Burkina Faso, the nuns are growing Spirulina since 2010. This way they could help lots of people in the region and in the neighboring countries of Mali and Niger to achieve better health. This example shows, that it can be quite easy, to ensure Holistic Food Supply and combat hunger and malnutrition in the world.

Holistic Food Supply with urban Algae Cultivation

There is a “Food Tech Campus” in Berlin, the EUREF-CAMPUS, which is supported by Edeka, a retail group in Germany. They offer financial support, space and a networking platform for Start-ups, to help them develop their innovative products for a better food supply. Among them, there is a project for urban algae cultivation, in which algae in large glass ampoules, that look like giant test tubes, are hanging on the sunny house facade. This algae is harvested and supplies the campus canteen with algae salad or as a dietary supplement.

Cultivating algae on house walls could be a good source of income for many people, but can also be good food for themselves, because eatable algae are super healthy with lots of micronutrients and proteins. The surplus of algae could be sold to a central point, which would send it in dried form to areas, where there is still an urgent need for food.

Holistic Food Supply: Free food in schools

„No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger“ – Akshaya Patra

There is a great project, which can is exemplary for Holistic Food Supply. In India the huge and well known ISKCON-Organisation Bangalore, which is run by devotees of Lord Krishna, daily supply food for around 51000 underprivileged children in 435 schools. This project runs by donations and some financial support from the government. ISKCON Food Relief Kitchen in Palwal also employs 120 villagers for cooking and supplying the meals for their families. There should be healthy and free meals for children in schools everywhere, because children are our future.

Holistic Food Supply: Super Project "Too Good to Go"

To many food is wasted and even in the first world there are people, who can`t afford to buy proper food. The organization “Too Good To Go” from Berlin ensures that food is eaten instead of wasted. Every day, good food is thrown away in cafés, bakeries, supermarkets, hotels and cantines – just because it hasn’t been sold. The “Too Good To Go” App let you know, what is left over and you can purchase on discount or even get food for free. This can be implemented all over the world.

Organic supermarkets on wheels

Holistic Food Supply means to get healthy and high quality organic food everywhere. Some years ago, people in USA, Canada and Australia started to run organic markets on wheels. This is necessary, where people live scattered over large areas and don’t have organic stores or they are too far away. This would be great for all areas of the world.
